Susan Lunny Oliver passed away on August 22, 2025 after a brief illness.
Sue was born on October 2, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. Her family moved to San Mateo, CA when Sue was two years old. She graduated from St. Matthew’s Catholic School in 1960 (and happily reconnected with a number of classmates in 2010), Notre Dame High School in Belmont in 1964 and the University of San Francisco in 1968 with a BA in English.
Sue met Fred Oliver on a blind date in 1970. They were married in San Mateo in 1971 and moved to Sacramento where Fred had just started a law practice. They were married for 53+ very happy years and were very close. When you saw Fred or Sue, you always saw the other.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Isabel Lunny, her eldest sister, Patricia Zanger, and Sue and Fred’s first child Mary, who died at birth. Sue is survived by her husband Fred, son Patrick A. Oliver, MD, daughter Marisa B. Panattoni, four grandchildren and her elder sisters Carole Lunny and Doris Jones.
Sue worked for some years as a legal secretary for Fred after her children were in high school, but really enjoyed being a wife and mother. Sue was blessed with a wonderfully happy personality, loved fun and especially loved people. Chatting with friends was her greatest recreation and she would readily start a conversation with a stranger. Sue was especially proud of starting a dinner group after the 5:00pm first Saturday Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Sue will be missed by many.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Sue on September 8, 2025 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Carmichael (5057 Cottage Way) at Noon. A reception will immediately follow at Our Lady of the Assumption.
Donations in Sue’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
