Sue Clark

With deep sorrow and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Sue Clark announces her passing on January 20, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Wally Clark; her children, Brad Clark (Amy Petrocchi Clark), Shannon Clark Huddy, and Brian Clark; her grandchildren, Austin Clark, Owen Clark, Adeline Huddy, and Lilly Huddy; her sister, Margie Alejo; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Ruth Marchini, and her sister, Betty.

Sue was born on November 2, 1946, in Sacramento, California, to Jake and Ruth Marchini. Growing up surrounded by her mother’s large family, she cherished time with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and family remained the heart of her life. She attended Mark Twain Elementary and Peter Lassen Junior High, graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1964, and went on to study at Sacramento City College.

She loved music, dancing and having a good time. In 1967 she met Wally at Mousie’s in Davis. They hit it off and they got married in 1969. He often said he was drawn to her the moment he saw her.

Her first job was as an assistant to the Sacramento Children’s Librarian, where she discovered a love for working with children. Sue especially enjoyed storytelling and spending time with young readers at the McClatchy Library.

Sue continued working for the City Library until the birth of their first child, Brad. She then became a devoted stay-at-home mother, lovingly raising their three children and creating a warm and active home. Sue was not only a mom to her children, but to all their friends. She loved having everyone hanging out at the house, and was known to grant friends’ requests on her grocery list.

While the children attended Hollywood Park Elementary, Sue became active in the PTA, volunteered in the school office, and helped reopen the school library. Her volunteer efforts continued as her children' s education continued at Cal Middle School and McClatchy High School.

While raising their children, Wally was a member of the 20/30 Club, and Sue joined the Twenty-Thirty-ettes, where her leadership and dedication eventually lead to her serving as President. The organization provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with other young couples, many of whom became lifelong friends.

In addition to volunteering at the kids’ school and participating in Twenty-Thirty-ettes, Sue was a proud sports mom. All three kids swam for the Sea Lions Swim Team and played in the Land Park Soccer League. Later, when Brian took up Ice Hockey, Sue spent many hours driving to practices and games, traveling around the state for tournaments, and supporting the teams. She was an excellent cheerleader, and continued supporting from the sidelines as her four grandchildren took up a variety of sports.

Throughout these busy years, Sue handled the bookkeeping for the family business, Associated Sound. After the children graduated from high school, she became the full-time bookkeeper and office manager for the company.

As her family grew, Sue continued to fill her home with laughter, love, and chocolate chip cookies. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and in the Summer her backyard was often filled with screams and laughter as her grandchildren and their friends played in her pool. Related or not, everyone who knew her knew her as “Grandma Sue.”

Sue was never happier than when she was spending her summers in Tahoe or Santa Cruz with her friends and family. She loved soaking in the sun, looking for seashells, and sitting in the sand with a good historical romance and a crisp diet coke or hard cider.

Sue dedicated the later part of her life to volunteering at her church, Trinity Espiscopal Cathedral. She found her calling within the church, where she served on the Alter-Guild for over 20 years. During her years with the church Sue participated in the Vestry, served as a Verger, and dedicated time to caring for the homeless with Safe Ground. Her hard work and dedication was recognized by those in her church community when she was honored with the Dean’s Award in 2010.

Everyone who had the good fortune of knowing Sue enjoyed her warm smile, dry sense of humor and sassy attitude.

A special thanks to the care givers: Emely, Salena, Denice, Kathryn, Gloria, Ashana, and Claudia who provided care during her last year with Alzheimer's.

Sue, you will be deeply missed.
