Emblem

Bob was born in the great state of Illinois at the beginning of the Great Depression. He was a descendant of Illinois pioneer farmers when Illinois was frontier and California was still Mexico. His great great uncle died in the Civil War. After completing college Bob served as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps, during the Korean War, 1951-1953. Bob retired from Mobil Oil Corp. in 1991. He enjoyed skiing, hiking in Desolation Wilderness and Yosemite High Country, and traveling around America. In retirement he was a volunteer driver for cancer patients for 20 years. He loved people, literature, and Jazz music. As a youth he had seen many of the greats in Chicago including Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Erroll Garner and many others. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn, his children Sara, Anne, Tim and Anastasia and grandchildren Jake and Mia Bertacchi, Nora and Valentina Baskerville. He always thought of his children as his best friends and loved them a lot. Marilyn is his best buddy and he loves her very much. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be said for the repose of his soul at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Friday May 15 at 9:30 AM. He was buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, Calif.
