Peggy Hastings, beloved wife and devoted friend passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, in Sacramento, CA, at the age of 72, after complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born January 3, 1953, in Marysville, CA to Ted and Dorothy McLaughlin. Peggy was a source of warmth, generosity, kindness and joy to those who knew her. Peggy was lovingly known as “Hon” to her husband Jerry and their circle of friends. They were married for 43 wonderful years and together affectionately were called “Jer&Hon.” Peggy had a generous nature and was always quick to help. She brought joy and happiness to any gathering with her laughter and fun personality. Peggy grew up in Yuba City attending Notre Dame for eleven years and graduating from Yuba City High School in 1971. Over her lifetime she lived in Yuba City, Thailand, Sacramento, Fair Oaks and the final 18 years in her dream house on the coast in Blaine, WA. She enjoyed a 25-year career at SMUD, where she met the love of her life, Jerry on his very first day. Their lifelong journey of companionship and remarkable adventures began shortly thereafter. As true animal lovers, Jer&Hon were devoted “dog parents” to seven adopted Golden Retrievers over the years. Peggy loved each one as family. Peggy’s love for baseball—especially the San Francisco Giants—was legendary. As a girl, she meticulously crafted scrapbooks, clipping box scores, headlines, and photos from the San Francisco Chronicle. Jer&Hon attended their first game together one week after their wedding. Her enthusiasm only grew stronger and she remained a loyal Giants fan throughout her life. Peggy was a passionate traveler, eager to see the world. Together Jer&Hon traveled the world visiting 5 continents. It was always a joy to explore Europe and other places together or with friends and family. Her love for music started early in life with her first concert in 1967 with the Monkees in San Francisco. Especially cherished memories were of gathering up friends and co-workers to attend concerts at The Palms or other venues to see bands like Norton Buffalo, Bruce Springsteen, Great Big Sea and countless others. Peg was known to have a wide range of bands that she enjoyed and never hesitated to invite others along for the adventure. Peggy is survived by her husband, Jerry; Mother-in-law Dolores Hastings; Sister-in-law Cindy Hastings-Inclan; Brother-in-law Mike Hastings; niece/God-daughter Jessica Hastings-Stephens and cousin Susan Giovannoni Jay. She was preceded in death by nephew Dylan Smith. The world was brighter with Peggy in it, and her joy will live on in all who loved her. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held in October at St. Joseph Church at her childhood school of Notre Dame in Marysville. Details will be announced soon and all who knew her are welcome to join and honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue (https://homewardboundgoldens.org) or your local food bank. Jer&Hon wish to thank the many friends who enriched their lives—whether sharing music, travel, baseball games, or simply cherished moments hanging out together. |
