Patricia Schuler Ambrose passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in the presence of her large and deeply loving family. Patricia was born in Sacramento to Catherine and Felix Schuler on September 16, 1937. She attended Sacred Heart School and then St. Francis High School. She met G. Louis, the love of her life, as a teenager, and they wed while she was in college, and remained married for 69 years. Patricia raised a family of six children and eleven grandchildren, and was truly the apple of everyone’s eye.
Patricia had a lifelong love of learning and immersed herself in the arts and humanities. As a young mother, she graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in English and later took courses toward a master’s degree in English at Sacramento State. Finally, at the age of 75, Patricia obtained associate alumna status at the University of Oxford (UK) following the very successful completion of a course in 17th-century Dutch Painting.
After retiring from a management position at the State of California, Patricia served for several decades as an active docent at the Crocker Art Museum and as a volunteer gardener at Sacramento CASA.
Patricia’s family includes her husband Louis, children Louis, Suzanne (James Egger), Amy (Koyo Konishi), Michael (Laura), and Jennifer (Ernest Zarate). Patricia was predeceased by her dear eldest child, Patricia R. Ambrose (1957-2019). Her grandchildren include Noah Ambrose(Cecilia) and Ari Ambrose-Schluter, Jacob Egger, Aya and Kiara Konishi, Maya and Evan Ambrose, Dylan and Max Zarate, and Samuel and Patrick Ambrose. Patricia’s siblings are Arnold Schuler (Edith), Catherine Bertolani, and Richard Schuler, and their late brother Philip Schuler, who passed away in his teens. Patricia was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, on both the Schuler and the Ambrose sides of the family, lifelong childhood besties, and dear friends from the neighborhood and beyond.
Patricia had a very big heart. Her spirit will live on in the many causes she supported. In lieu of flowers, the Ambrose family would be honored by gifts made in Patricia’s name to any of these organizations: weave.org; crockerart.org; capradio.org; sacloaves.org; bstreettheatre.org; and sacramentocasa.org.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Gormley & Sons, followed by a gathering with family and friends at the home of Suzanne Ambrose and James Egger of Elk Grove.
