Lloyd Alois Lagerstrom was born on July 3, 1942, and passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at the age of 83. He was a proud 44-year resident of Rancho Cordova.
Lloyd was born in Milwaukee and was raised there until his family moved to Brookfield in 1951. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1959 and later earned his degree from St. Norbert College in 1963.
Lloyd went on to serve with distinction in the United States Air Force from May 1964 to February 1984, primarily as a B-52 radar navigator. Following his military retirement, he earned an M.B.A. in Finance from Golden Gate University and began a second successful career with the California Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento, where he worked primarily as a Tax Auditor.
Lloyd was a quiet man with many passions and talents. On his final day leaving the Franchise Tax Board office, he simply put on his bicycle helmet and rode off to attend an organizational meeting for his town’s Fourth of July celebration. There was no fanfare surrounding his retirement—he simply moved on to his next passion: volunteering.
For more than 40 years, Lloyd proudly volunteered at the Mather Air Show, helping with logistics, security, and fencing. He was deeply devoted to his church family at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova. As part of the Martha and Mary Ministry, he faithfully served as the self-proclaimed “chief kneeler silencer” and lovingly tended the parish’s 340 rose bushes with the “Rose Patrol,” as he affectionately called it. This spring’s especially beautiful bloom brought him great joy as he attended daily Mass.
The St. John Vianney Mr. and Mrs. Club was also a cherished part of Lloyd’s social life. Alongside his wife Connie, he served in nearly every board position except recording secretary. Together, they especially enjoyed organizing celebrations, with the annual Inaugural Ball being one of their favorite events each year.
Lloyd also served for decades as an usher at the Sunday 8:00 a.m. Mass and faithfully volunteered on Monday mornings counting the parish contributions.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Bunzel Lagerstrom and Alvin Richleff Lagerstrom; his infant brother, Joseph; his sister, Louise Lagerstrom Weber; and his beloved son, Leif Lagerstrom, born November 17, 1967, who passed away in 2005 and is forever missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his daughters, Lissa and Luv; his grandchildren, Abbey and Aaron Powers, and Andrew and Lily Newman; as well as his nephews, Paul and Steve Weber, and many cousins and extended family members.
Above all else, Lloyd deeply loved his family and took great joy in every aspect of their lives. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and happiness. They always knew he was there for them, with a heart full of unwavering love and support.
Lloyd will be greatly missed by his family, his many volunteer friends, his church family, and the entire Rancho Cordova community.
A rosary/vigil followed by full military honors followed by a funeral mass will all be held May 29, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, California. All are invited to attend.
Burial will follow on May 30, 2026, at 10:00 am at Westwood Hills Memorial Park, Placerville, CA in the family plot.
