Leo H. Schuering, Jr –- better known as "Butch" -- was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. A standout student-athlete at Christian Brothers High School, Butch went on to the US Air Force Academy followed by Hastings Law School.
After working as a public defender in his early years, Butch's career eventually led him to specialize in medical malpractice defense litigation. He ultimately founded a highly successful law firm, and through his skill and work ethic he reached the pinnacle of his profession. Respected by colleagues and competitors alike, Butch was awarded the American Board of Trial Advocates Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes "a lifetime of excellence, integrity, and leadership in the legal profession."
Butch was known for his quick wit, generosity, and magnetic personality. A horse-racing enthusiast, an avid duck hunter, a die hard 49ers fan, and a wonderful father, Butch's life was a life well-lived.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Eileen, and their three children, Luke, Ashley, and Jake. The family was lucky to be with him in his final, peaceful moments.
A Celebration of Life for Butch will be held on July 17, 12:30 PM, at W. F. Gormley and Sons Funeral Chapel, followed by a reception at 3:00 PM at Riverside Clubhouse.
