Larry William Roberts

Larry William Roberts passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by family after courageously facing years of congestive heart failure with the strength and spirit of a true warrior.

Larry is survived by his children, Jennifer Roberts-Woods (Greg Woods), Juliet Roberts and Loren Roberts; his grandchildren, Kaleb Woods, Levi Woods, Justus Woods, Tristen Moss and Paige Rowe (Cheyne Rowe); his great-grandchildren, Juniper Rowe and Alder Rowe; his former wife, Janice Mitchell (Rick Barnes) and her identical twin sister, Joyce Mitchell (Eric Reininga); his brothers, Kenny Roberts and Tim Huckabay; his sisters, Debbie Rosillo and Terry Evans; and many beloved step siblings, uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Stiles (William Stiles); his stepmother, Dixie Huckabay; his fathers, Tim Huckabay and Chuck Roberts; and his daughter-in-law, Valerie Roberts.

Larry attended Hiram Johnson High School. After earning his diploma, he entered the printing and graphic arts trade, completing his apprenticeship and earning journeyman. He took immense pride in his craft and was precise and hardworking, with a natural creativity and artistic touch that reflected both his technical skill and his spirited personality.

An artist at heart, Larry, he was an exceptional photographer, spending much of his life capturing moments of joy and beauty — from family gatherings and weddings to yacht club events and treasured adventures in the Delta. His creative eye and gentle presence were gifts to all who knew him.

His career spanned more than 45 years, including over 25 years at Cal Central Press, where his artistic vision was matched by remarkable technical expertise. A true craftsman, he specialized in pre-press color scanning and built a reputation for consistently beautiful, meticulous work. Later, he owned and operated his own business, Color Craft, in downtown Sacramento. He also founded Larry’s Eye and Delta Pics, continuing to share his passion and talent for photography.

He loved adventure. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hot rods, sailing Hobie Cats, skiing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, horses, flying kites on the beach, trips to the coast and camping. Yet of all his pursuits, his greatest joy was being a father. He gave himself fully to that role and cherished Jenny, Julie, Loren and his grandchildren, with unwavering, unconditional love. Fatherhood was sacred to him. He showed up wholeheartedly for each of his three children and was there through every hardship and season of growth. After 15 years of marriage, he and Janice went their separate ways but remained good friends and devoted co-parents. As a single dad, Larry gave it his all — planning meals, overseeing chores and even mastering ponytails for his girls. His children always knew they had someone in their corner. Not a day passed without a call or conversation with his children.

Larry was an extraordinary friend — loyal, kind and steadfast. He was always there, with an open heart, a listening ear and a willingness to help however he could. Those who knew him felt the comfort of his solid presence.

A longtime member of the Center for Spiritual Awareness in West Sacramento, Larry was deeply devoted to his spiritual journey, personal growth and community. For years, he arrived early on Sundays to oversee the church sound system, ensuring every service was recorded and heard with beauty and clarity. He cherished his men’s group — best friends of more than 30 years (Daniel, Danny, Doug and Patrick). He also valued church classes and book studies that deepened his understanding and allowed him to support others on their paths.

Larry was able to spend his final years at home, surrounded by love, thanks to his children, close friends, his friend and caregiver Marlon and his angel-like neighbor, Nit.

Larry’s legacy of love, strength, creativity, adventure and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Awareness in West Sacramento.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!” Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination.

Her diminished size is in me and not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!”
there are other eyes that are watching for her coming;
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “Here she comes!”

And that is dying…
