It is with great sadness that we announce that Larry Rosina Lazaro III, born on June 12, 1965, in Stockton, CA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in Sacramento, CA. He served as an Engineer in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division and retired as a meat cutter in United Food and Commercial Workers 8 - Golden State in 2012.
Larry loved to spend time with his big yet tight-knit family and his countless friends. He regularly turned strangers into lifelong friends with his gift of gab, warm smile, and infectious laugh. Larry had a strong sense of rhythm that made him a great Tahitian dancer and drummer. You couldn’t play an oldie without Larry singing along, and he never missed the chance to cut a rug on the dance floor. He was always eager to lend a hand, chauffeuring elderly family members to the grocery store or fellow veterans to medical appointments, or dog-sitting for family and friends. Larry was a man of strong faith. He relentlessly volunteered to cook for, serve food to, and clothe the homeless with the International Christian Evangelistic Assembly. In his final years, he attended New Season Church in Sacramento, CA.
Larry is survived by his children: Justine (Daniel Escobar), Kaylee, Conner; and grandchildren: Phoenix and Orion Escobar. He is also survived by his parents: Larry Rosina Lazaro Jr. and Clare Mayberry, née Alavazo (Gordon Mayberry); and siblings: Michelle (Mark Schuessler), Alexander, Mark (Claudia), Christopher, Matthew (Stacia), and Ryan (Rose), Desha Mayberry, and Jason Mayberry (Amber). He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Larry V. Lazaro (Helen), Esther Alavazo, and George Alavazo (Fidela); cousin, Ricardo Lazaro Jr; and nephew, Grayson Schuessler.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at New Season Church at 1pm PT on Friday, July 25. Military funeral honors and committal services will take place at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Volunteers of America (Northern California & Northern Nevada) and Nation’s Finest, two organizations that support Veterans.
Larry was known to call his family and friends to see how their day was going or send a greeting card just to let them know that he was thinking about them. To keep Larry’s memory alive, please call a loved one or send them a card today because tomorrow is not promised.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support.
