John Edward Spisak

John Edward Spisak, age 85, of Sacramento, California, passed away September 27, 2022, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital on 2025 Morse Ave., Sacramento.  John was born November 11, 1936, to Edward John Spisak and Esther Sigberta Currie in Virden, Illinois, the younger of two children. He attended school in Springfield, Illinois, and met the love of his life at the local Steak & Shake.  He married his teenage sweetheart, Alice Eileen Grady, on June 9, 1955, at Shaw Air Force Base (AFB) in South Carolina. John served 28 years in the United States Air Force and worked up the ranks to Senior Master Sergeant in his passion of aircraft maintenance, the most difficult rank for a non-commissioned officer to achieve.  In this role, he ensured the safety of hundreds of pilots, endured two tours in Vietnam during war time, served several temporary duty assignments, and worked to preserve pride and freedom in our country before retiring in 1982 at Mather AFB.  Throughout his career, John loved to bowl with his family and friends.  Later in life, he became an active inspiration and leader in the Sons in Retirement (SIR) organization for retired like-minded individuals where he coordinated an annual bowling tournament and assisted with their monthly luncheons and newsletters.  He is survived by his son, John "Buddy" Howard Spisak, and daughter, Kathleen Mae Spisak; daughter-in-law, Rosemary "Rose"; grandson, Andrew "Andy" John Spisak; and grand daughter-in-law, Theresa Marie Baschal.  John is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 62 years, Alice, in January 2017; and by his sister, Phyllis Green, in April 2015.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 4-6 pm followed by a Rosary at 6 pm at W.F. Gormley and Sons Funeral Home, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95811.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM with a Mass on Wednesday, October 12, at St. John Vianney Parish, 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.  Burial services will be held on Thursday, October 13, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
