Jerald Walter McLaughlin

 Jerald “Jerry” Walter McLaughlin, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and lifelong Sacramentan, passed away peacefully at his Elk Grove home on May 4, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born in Sacramento on November 5, 1945, to Walter and Cecilia McLaughlin, Jerry's life was deeply rooted in the city he loved. Jerry attended Holy Spirit School and graduated from McClatchy High School in 1964. After attending Sacramento City College, he dedicated many years to the railroad before his retirement in 2005.

In 1974, Jerry married Delina Cowley, and together they built their home in Elk Grove where they lovingly raised their children, Ashley and Garrett. Jerry found immense satisfaction in fixing things, a skill and passion that brought him joy throughout his life. He also possessed a curious mind and was a lifelong learner, always eager to expand his knowledge.

Jerry created a rich life with unwavering support for his family. He especially treasured watching his grandchildren, Brogan and Bailey McLaughlin and Gavin and Brayden Molloy, experience the joys of country living. Jerry never tired of being outdoors. His precise and detail-oriented approach was evident in the many woodworking projects he undertook throughout his life.

Jerry's legacy of love and devotion lives on through his wife of 51 years, Delina; his children and their spouses, Ashley and Patrick Molloy, and Garrett and Lindsey McLaughlin; his sister, Kay Madsack; and his beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held in celebration of Jerry's life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sacramento on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow at the residence of Garrett and Lindsey McLaughlin. The family will hold a private burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sacramento.
