Feb 5, 1934 — Jun 23, 2026

Hermann Edward Lorenz, Jr.

It is with great sadness that the family of Hermann Edward Lorenz, Jr. must announce his passing on June 23, 2026. He was 92 years old. He was a native Sacramentan. He was born February 5th, 1934, to Hermann Edward Lorenz, M.D. and Nancy Buckley Lorenz. He was devoted to his loving wife, Alberta, and his children, Hermann Peter (Jen), Margaret, Christopher (Tracey), John (Cameron), and adored his grandchildren, Nichole Patten (Josh), Scarlet, Roxy, Eva, Danny, Max, and Cate. Hermann was always interested in their many activities and asked an abundance of questions about their school, dance, softball, volleyball, bands, art, jobs, and more. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel B. Lorenz of Sacramento and sister Therese Noonan (Mike) of Moraga. Sadly, his sister, Mary Anne Lorenz Soudant (Robert) of New Jersey preceded him in death by 100 days. We believe they are now together in Heaven. Hermann is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He attended Christian Brothers High School, Georgetown University, and Hastings College of Law.

Hermann had vision limitations throughout his life and finally lost his vision completely. At that point, he became active with the Sacramento Society for the Blind where he learned to use a white cane, computer skills, chair yoga, and even attempted cooking while being blind!

Hermann lived a happy and joyous life until he took a fall in September of 2024 at which point he was incapacitated. Even then, his strong resilient spirit carried him through.

Hermann was a man of integrity, honesty, and faith. He and Alberta were faithful and active members of St. Anthony Catholic Church where they have made many deep friendships.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #953, Catholic Lawyers Guild, Parish Council, Sacramento Downtown Prayer Breakfast Group, Pocket Little League Board, and Grandfathers Club.

He enjoyed practicing law for 50 years as a sole practitioner. He loved helping people. He started his career with Legal Aid where he made a difference in people’s lives.

Hermann enjoyed a rich and full life – enjoying “talking books,” operas, the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, traveling (he was a great European travel companion – he knew all the history), plays, museums, movies, and more. He was a big fan of the 49ers and the Giants, and also loved “Law and Order” and “Blue Bloods.”

We are grateful to the caregivers at Greenhaven Healthcare Center who took care of him with kindness and compassion, and to Absolute Compassion Hospice for the gentle and loving care they gave him during the last days of his life.

We miss him deeply but are consoled by knowing he is in the hands of our loving God.

A funeral Mass will be held for him on Friday, July 10th at 11:00am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento.

Memorials may be made to Society for the Blind, St. Vincent de Paul Society, SSIP, or the charity of your choice.
