Dr. Jonathan Richard Beck

Dr. Jonathan (Jon) Richard Beck, a beloved physician, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Sacramento, California. He was 83.

Born on November 13, 1942, in Rockford, Illinois, Jonathan lived a life defined by compassion, integrity, and a deep connection to both people and nature.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Paula; his sister Janet Taylor of Elm Grove,WI; his brother-in-law Tom Dunderdale and wife Bev of Thornton, CO; and his cherished nieces and nephews.

Jon earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa. He completed his internship and residency training at DC General Hospital ending with a year at UC Davis Medical Center. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force, with assignments in Udorn Thailand, and Vandenberg Air Force Base, retiring as a Captain.

A specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Beck was one of the original founders of the Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento. Throughout his career, he was known not only for his clinical excellence but for his compassion, meticulous attention to detail, and dedication to his patients.

Jon was a loyal and steadfast friend-often the first to check in, offer help, or quietly lend support.

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Jon found joy in canoeing, camping, birding, cross-country skiing, and cycling. These passions were rooted in his early years as a Boy Scout, culminating in his achievement of Eagle Scout. He remained deeply committed to conservation throughout his life, dedicating time to the Wood Duck Program at Consumnes River Preserve, and stewarding a mile of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Among his favorite places were Quetico and the Boundary Waters in Ontario and MN, as well as The Sea Ranch, which he visited annually for more than three decades. Above all, he found his greatest happiness at home with Paula, tending to their yard, enjoying the companionship of their Great Pyrenees, and spending time with family and friends.

In honoring Jon's wishes, no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacramento SPCA, ASPCA or The Nature Conservancy.
