Delphinia B. Slaughter

Delphinia “Del” Slaughter passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 95. Her life was a vibrant tapestry woven with strength, elegance, and an unwavering sense of purpose.

Born on September 24, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Delphinia was the daughter of Otto Minor Sr. and Thelma B. Minor. She grew up in Chicago alongside her siblings Otto Minor Jr. and Marion D. Young. She began her education at A.O. Sexton Elementary School and later attended Inglewood High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by determination and achievement.

Delphinia dedicated over three decades of her professional life to public service through the federal government. Starting as an entry-level clerk, she steadily rose through the ranks at both the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration. Her career culminated in a leadership role where she trained managers—an accomplishment that reflected her deep knowledge, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.

Beyond her professional achievements, Delphinia was known for her warmth and hospitality. She had a gift for entertaining and was renowned for her delicious meals that left guests “asking for more.” Her food presentations were as beautiful as they were flavorful—from meticulously arranged fruit trays to festive holiday spreads that became family traditions. The Fourth of July was one of her favorite times to gather loved ones around the grill for Bar-B-Que celebrations filled with laughter and joy. At Christmas, she delighted in giving thoughtful gifts wrapped with care and love.

A proud member of her church community for over twenty years, Delphinia found joy in fellowship and faith. She especially cherished moments when her beloved dogs were blessed during services—a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her generosity extended beyond those close to her; she faithfully supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with heartfelt donations.

Delphinia also found joy in camaraderie through her Pokeno Club and never missed an opportunity to engage in spirited conversations about politics or cheer on her favorite team—the San Francisco 49ers.

She lived boldly and authentically—never lukewarm in her convictions—and carried herself with grace and grit. With a quick wit, radiant smile, and commanding presence, Delphinia turned life into a melody uniquely hers. She stood tall through every season of life and inspired others to do the same.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Camille; grandson Omari Chioke and his wife Deniqua; great grandchildren Deja, Jayden, and Jayce; great-great-granddaughter Kiela Jade; nephew Dana; and a host of cousins who affectionately called her “Aunt Del.” Her legacy also lives on in all those whose lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, humor, and strength.

She now joins in rest her parents Otto Sr. and Thelma B., brother Otto Jr., and sister Marion, whose memories remain cherished.

May Delphinia’s memory bring comfort to those who knew her—and may we all carry forward the lessons she taught us: to live fully, love fiercely, speak truth boldly, cook generously—and always stand tall.
