Catherine G. McElligott

Catherine G. McElligott (formerly Murphy) known affectionately as Cathi to her many friends and loved ones-passed away peacefully at her home on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the family she adored. Born in San Francisco on July 11, 1933, to George and Themis Christo, Cathi laid her roots in the East Sacramento community, where she lived beautifully for the past 60 years. She was a proud graduate of the Convent of the Sacred Heart and Lone Mountain College in San Francisco. Cathi built a life defined by care, creativity, and connection. While raising her four children, she also worked professionally as an Art Consultant and as an ESL teacher at the Fremont School for Adults. She had a wonderful creative spirit, regularly creating landscape art and finding joy in clay-whether she was throwing pottery or crafting intricate ceramic masks. That same curious mind made her an avid reader and a dedicated member of the River Park Confabulators Book Club She leaves behind a legacy of immense devotion. Her kindness touched everyone she met, but it was her family that brought her the greatest joy. Cathi is survived by her children, Chris Murphy (Lisa), Matt Murphy, Teresa Murphy, and Jackie Heinecke; stepchildren, Brian McElligott (Lisa), Kevin McElligott (Sue), and Maureen McElligott; and sister, Alexandra Mack (David). She was a loving grandmother to Michelle Murphy Stubblefield, Kyle Murphy (Emily), Katie Wardlaw (Chandler), John Peterson, and Stephen Peterson, and a deeply loving "YaYa" to her six great-grandchildren: Adeline Stubblefield, Johanna Stubblefield, Jack Wardlaw, Ellie Murphy, Emma Wardlaw, and George Murphy. Cathi is now reunited with those who preceded her in death: her first husband, John V. Murphy (2001); her second husband, Roger McElligott (2019); her parents, George (1960) and Themis Christo (2016); and her sister, Jeanne Prentice (2021).Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Cathi's memory and celebrating her remarkable life on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church, 616 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95816.
