Catherine Lynn Feenstra, known to all as Cathy, passed away on May 12, 2026, just ten days before what would have been her 84th birthday. Born on May 22, 1942, she was a Sacramento, California native who called this city home her entire life.
On December 2, 1961, Cathy married Henry Feenstra — and as those who knew them will attest, they got it right the first time. Their partnership spanned more than six decades and was the foundation of a life richly lived.
After devoting her early years to raising her daughter Cara, Cathy earned her real estate license and built a career helping people find homes — work she loved and did with warmth and dedication from 1980 until she retired in the summer of 2024. Even in her final years, the joy she took in connecting people with the right home never faded.
Cathy threw memorable parties for friends and family, traveled to beloved Carmel-by-the-Sea and Palm Desert, ran for years, read voraciously, and never turned down good chocolate. Shopping was a sport, movies were a pleasure, and the people around her were always her greatest delight.
She is survived by her husband, Hank Feenstra; her daughter, Cara Gulati; her sister Gloria Bryner and Gloria's children and their families; her sister Bobbi and Joe Granthum; her brother Rick and Doris Pires; and a wide circle of cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta and Duke Pires.
Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the charity of your choice in Cathy's memory.
