Bruce Strickley Sr. was born on May 29, 1936 and passed away on April 26, 2025. Bruce was a father, husband, friend, and businessman. He is survived by his three children; Jo Ann, Bruce, and Robert; and by his two grandsons, John and Benjamin Strickley. Bruce graduated from McClatchy High School in 1954, and from California State University, Sacramento in 1973. He served two years in the United States Army. He married Jan Bush and they raised their family in Sacramento. He had a very successful career in retail clothing sales, guiding and building the family business that was launched in 1949 and included Strickley's Men's Shop, The Thread Shed, and Strickley's Clothier to Ladies and Gentlemen.
Bruce was very talented. He played the banjo and piano, built cabinets for his home and his stores, helped build the family home, and restored vintage Jaguar automobiles. In retirement he took up painting and gardening. Throughout his life Bruce enjoyed boating, fishing, hiking, backpacking, water skiing and golf. He encouraged his children to be independent, and all three graduated from universities and had successful careers.
Bruce will be greatly missed by family and friends. He will be laid to rest at the Sacramento City Cemetery with his grandfather.
