Anne Ryan Young died on February 24, 2026, at her home after a long illness. She was 94. She was born in Sacramento, the daughter of Marrilee (Parker) and Arthur Ryan. She was a former teacher and homemaker. She attended California Junior High School and C.K. McClatchy High School, then graduated from Stanford University with a degree in education.
Anne had two long and happy marriages. After college she married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. William “Bill” Dozier, also of Sacramento, and a graduate of Stanford who went on to Stanford Medical School. She taught first grade in San Francisco public schools before giving birth to two daughters while Bill served as an army doctor and received his medical training. Bill completed his training in 1963 and the family returned to Sacramento. While Bill practiced medicine, Anne volunteered with the Girl Scouts, the Junior League, and the Sacramento Medical Auxiliary, serving as its president from 1973 to 1974. Bill Dozier died in Sacramento in January of 1982.
In September of 1982, Anne married Keith Young, Sr. Keith was a Chevrolet dealer in Dallas, Texas. He was the widower of Anne’s lifelong friend Jere Snider Young, and the father of two daughters and a son. Anne, Bill, Jere, and Keith had all attended Stanford around the same time, and the two couples had traveled together before the untimely deaths of Bill and Jere. With Keith, Anne led an active life that included world travel, reading, gardening, and entertaining family and friends in Sacramento, Dallas, Tahoe, and even, occasionally, Paris.
Anne was known for her love of gardening and for creating beautiful gardens in all her homes.
Anne is survived by daughters Betsy Dozier Salomon and Annette Dozier, stepdaughter Nancy Young Dorociak, eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
At Anne’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
